Juntos con los Niños de Puebla (Together with the Children of Puebla)

Consequently, in households affected by situations of family violence, it is critical to transform the dynamic of interactions between parents and their children in order for the children to develop starting at a young age. The Fundación Juntos con los Niños de Puebla (JUCONI) offers innovative programs to help children in adverse situations in a timely manner, starting with the transformation of their environment. Through its program of home visits and care provided in centers, the foundation strengthens the development of caregivers and their ties with their children. The families receive guidance about the importance of secure emotional attachment and growth in healthy and stimulating environments.
Problematic
The development of children is affected when they grow up in fragmented households and with high levels of family violence. Sadly, such situations are common in the region. Although care strategies for children in these situations aim to remedy those negative effects, it is still necessary to ensure that the home environment improves. Strategies are needed to transform households with adverse environments into secure environments and to ensure the healthy and adequate growth of the children.
Solution
JUCONI is a family therapy program that aims to transform the effects of family violence into a household that constitutes a secure and safe environment by strengthening the care capacity of the family. During eight weeks, families receive visits during which they receive training and information in order to establish secure ties with their children. Staff at the center also help families create an appropriate environment, designate one section of the home as a play area, and teach the parents about the role and the importance of play in the comprehensive development of their children. During sessions at the center, parents interact with their children and receive feedback about positive interactions. In addition, the JUCONI Institute offers workshops and training programs about routines, parenting skills, and secure emotional attachment and their impact on child development.
