Innova Schools

Technology and teamwork. Exploration and creation. Environments and learning. All of these combinations form part of the Innova Schools initiative that consists of a learning methodology focused on the children in functional spaces that foster flexible pedagogy. Each child builds his or her own learning process, participating in activities that foster research, exploration, and creation. The available materials, activities, and environments are designed to respond to the needs and interests of each child. One of the most innovative components is a hybrid model that combines technologies with teamwork, allowing Innova School students to adapt to the challenges of distance learning. Materials are designed and classes structured collectively, and both are frequently evaluated in order to determine which practices are most successful.

Problematic

Children in Peru and in Latin America and the Caribbean often do not have access to proper and quality care, and quality education is very costly. Traditional teaching environments focus above all on the role of the teacher and provide few opportunities for exploration, research, and creativity for children at an early age through the use of play and group activities. It is necessary to introduce innovative pedagogical spaces and practices in order to ensure that learning takes place and to close skill gaps starting at an early age.

Solution

The Innova Schools initiative is a flexible learning model that is adaptable to the learning process for children. During the school day, activities include exploratory games, sharing moments, storytelling that fosters affection and the joy of reading and writing, and other activities to enhance the individual and group potential of the children. The teaching model involves three groups based on age: beginners (for 3-year olds); prekínder (for 4-year olds); and kínder (for 5-year olds). The activities focus on learning in teams, comprehensive development, autonomy, and building a learning process according to the needs of each child. The children start their school day with exploratory games, then move on to work on both guided and independent activities that foster communication and social skills. In their distance education format, the schools empower parents to play a central role in the continuity of learning routines in the home.
