Children Affected by Migration in Honduras
Problematic
Children from skipped-generation households, affected by migration, more frequently show cognitive and developmental delays. There is a need to understand the cognitive and behavioral effects of children of migrant parents in these countries and in host countries, as this phenomenon continues to grow in the region.
Solution
To analyze the effect on the social and emotional development of children abandoned by migrant parents or who have experienced migration. To study the economics of care behind the relatives or caregivers raising these children and the parenting practices they apply.
Evaluation and Impact
The project has been generating data to (i) identify Northern Triangle households with children ages 0-6 whose parents have migrated and (ii) estimate the effect of such migration on the early childhood development of these children.
